Londono Žinios editorial principles

Londono Žinios (londonozinios.com) is a news portal for Lithuanians living in the United Kingdom. Publisher: Valentino Platinum Ltd. We write about the life of the Lithuanian community, its organisations, Lithuanian supplementary schools, parishes, sport and culture, about United Kingdom rules that affect Lithuanians living here, and about news from Lithuania that matters to emigrants. We want our readers to be able to trust us.

Accuracy and sources

We check facts before we publish, and we make nothing up. We say where our information comes from, except where we have good reason to protect a source, and when we rely on official data, we link to the official source. We report figures supplied by organisers as their figures.

Facts and opinion

We keep facts and opinion clearly separate. We publish the editorial team’s assessment separately, labelled “Our assessment”. We do not take the position of any political party.

Independence

Advertising and sponsored content are always clearly labelled and kept separate from editorial work. Advertisers have no influence over what we write or how we write it. The publisher has other business interests; where they are connected with a subject, we say so in the text.

Corrections

If we have made a mistake, we correct it visibly and as quickly as possible, with a “Corrected” note and the date, in both languages. We do not correct factual errors silently. Our assessment is opinion, so we do not change it simply because someone disagrees, but if it turns out to have relied on an incorrect fact, we review it.

Respect for people

We respect people’s privacy and do not publish personal information without good reason. We take particular care to protect children and people in difficult or vulnerable situations, for example people who are grieving or who have been victims of crime. We publish photographs of identifiable children only with their parents’ consent.

Photographs

We publish only genuine photographs, we do not alter them, and we always credit their author or source. We use other people’s photographs only with permission or under a licence.

Artificial intelligence

We use artificial intelligence tools when preparing what we publish, but a person reviews and approves every item before it is published. The publisher is responsible for the content we publish.

In our work we follow the IPSO Editors' Code of Practice in full.

Two languages

We publish the Lithuanian and English versions together.
