As Londono Žinios is a media publisher, some personal data may be processed for the purposes of journalism.
The Data Protection Act 2018, Schedule 2, Part 5, Paragraph 26 provides special arrangements for data processed for the purposes of journalism where:
- the data are processed with a view to the publication of journalistic material;

- the public interest in the publication;
- the possible impact on the individual;
- the principles of professional journalism;

- contact the source;
- carry out fact-checking;
- assess the public interest;
- retain the information as editorial material;
- reject the information;

Service providers currently used
- Vercel Inc. (USA): website hosting and form processing. Like any server, it receives the visitor’s IP address and technical request data.
- Google (Google Workspace): our email, through which messages from the contact and subscription forms are delivered; Google Analytics visitor statistics, only if you consent to cookies.
- Open-Meteo: weather information at the top of the website. Your browser contacts Open-Meteo directly, so this service sees your IP address. It does not set cookies, and we do not pass any other data about you to it.
13. International data transfers
Some of our technology or cloud service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom.
In such cases an appropriate lawful transfer mechanism must apply, for example:
- a UK-recognised adequacy regime;
- appropriate contractual data protection measures;
- other appropriate safeguards permitted by the UK GDPR.
Appropriate safeguards are used for international transfers where there is no adequacy decision.
14. How long we keep information
We do not keep data for longer than is reasonably necessary. Indicative periods:
General enquiries: usually up to 24 months after the matter or communication is closed.

Job applicant information: usually up to 6 months from the end of the selection process, unless there is a lawful basis for keeping it longer.
Journalistic archive
Published journalistic material and the editorial records supporting it may be kept for a long time or archived permanently where this is justified by:
- the historical record;

16. Restrictions on rights in journalism cases
Where personal data are lawfully processed for the purposes of journalism and the conditions set out in the Data Protection Act 2018 are met, certain rights of the data subject or obligations of the controller may be restricted to the extent that applying them would be incompatible with legitimate journalistic purposes. Each such decision must be assessed individually.
17. Information security
We apply proportionate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against:
- unauthorised access;
- alteration;
- loss;
- destruction;
- unauthorised disclosure.

- encryption;

The use of AI does not remove the editorial team’s responsibility for published content. Where external AI services are used, it must be assessed what data are provided to them and what data protection terms apply.
19. Automated decisions
Unless expressly stated in the course of a specific service, we do not use decisions based solely on automated processing of data that would produce legal or similarly significant effects for an individual.

Where consent is required:
- it must be freely given;

- assess its risk;
- take steps to limit the harm;
